Nestled in central Vietnam, Quang Tri Province beckons with its profound historical tapestry and striking natural vistas, yet it's the resilient spirit of its inhabitants that truly defines its character. Despite enduring the scars of conflict, the people of Quang Tri exhibit remarkable resilience, forging vibrant communities amidst the echoes of the past. However, challenges persist, with many residents facing hardships in their daily lives. Yet amidst these challenges, a sense of community and perseverance prevails, weaving a rich fabric of resilience and hope.  Quang Tri Province is among the poorest areas in Vietnam. It's population is about 638, 000 inhabitants.

DISADVANTAGED CONDITIONS 

•Quang Tri suffers over 10 tropical storms annually which cause flooding, landslide, flash flood, and serious damage to the crops and local habitat.

•It has 4 months of hot and dry weather per year that cause drought and shortage of water for crops and domestic use.

•Most of the ethnic minority communities in mountainous area have low education level.  Their living condition is substandard.

•Farming is the main mean of income generation as the province is mostly rural.

•The rate of disability in its population is highest in the country because of the UXO accidents and Agent Orange contamination, with 29.000 people with severe disability.

Medical care outreach

•Many poor families, including victims of landmines and Agent Orange, are living under poverty. They do not have a safe shelter to live in, especially through stormy season. The most needy people are ethnic minority people (Van Kieu and Paco). There are thousands of them in need of a house.

Meanwhile, about 80% of ethnic minority community do not have a toilet at home

A new house cost $2,500

$500 can build a toilet for a rural family

• There are many children with disabilities in the area who are in need of life skills and vocational skills. Music classes for visually impaired students or cooking classes for hearing impaired students will create opportunity for future jobs for these disadvantaged children.

• $160 will pay for a music teacher for a month

•A guitar costs $200

•A musical keyboard costs $500

• $200 will pay for a culinary trainer for a month

•Most of rural children do not have a bicycle. A bicycle can facilitate rural student in his daily schooling. It helps to reduce the school drop-up rate among these children. A bicycle can also be shared among their siblings and used by their parents to take them to medical facility.

•$150 can provide a bicycle for a middle-school or high-school student

•80% of Quang Tri population are living in rural and remote areas. Few of them can reach the province's capital for good medical care. Therefore, outreach missions to bring eye doctors and dentists to rural communities to help with the grassroots people. 

•$20 can provide a pair of eyeglasses for a rural students.

•$500 can pay an eye doctor or a dentist to serve in a 3-day mission that help about 200 rural children.
